Leadership Seminar

Just before Easter, the Department for Education (DfE) published a White Paper ‘Educational Excellence

Everywhere’.

This followed the Chancellor’s statement in the Budget, that all schools would become academies by

2022.

The White Paper has three main elements – the continuation of the academisation programme, the

proposed changes to school funding and the accreditation of teachers.

None of these are new policies and had previously been announced either in the Conservative Party

Manifesto, prior to the 2015 Election, or in the Queen’s speech following it.

Whilst there is nothing new, the NASUWT recognises that for many primary schools, the announcements,

have understandably created uncertainty and concern, particularly in relation to forced academisation,

which, until recently, has mainly been targeted towards secondary schools.

The NASUWT is committed to continuing to support teachers and school leaders in responding to the

Government’s White Paper plans, together with the changes to pupil assessment in primary schools. In

addition to our ongoing advice, support and industrial action strategy, the NASUWT is hosting a

Conference for all primary school teacher and school leader members. This will be held on Saturday 23

April, at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Birmingham. At the Conference, you will have the

opportunity to find out more about the Government’s White Paper, changes to KS1/KS2 assessment and

the support available for you from the NASUWT.

In addition to the Conference, on Wednesday 15 June the NASUWT is also hosting a Leadership

Seminar which will explore the specific issues and implications for school leaders as a result of the

Government’s plans on changes to school funding and academisation.

Both events are FREE for NASUWT members and includes refreshments, lunch and payment of travel

expenses.
