Ros Wynne-Jones to deliver the Mary Macarthur Lecture 17th March 2017

The TUC in the Midlands is proud that this year’s Mary Macarthur lecture will be delivered by the campaigning, award winning journalist, Ros Wynne-Jones.

Ros writes the weekly ‘Real Britain’ column in the Daily Mirror shining a light on the realities of austerity and poverty across the UK along with highlighting numerous campaigns. Ros was the first national journalist to pick up the TUC Dying to Work campaign with a main feature on the inspirational Jacci Woodcock. The column is sponsored by Unite the Union and appears every Friday.

In other projects at the minute Ros is travelling the UK recreating George Orwell’s ‘Road to Wigan Pier’ and will be stopping off in Stourbridge, Wolverhampton and Stoke.

During the day, ahead of her delivering the lecture, Ros will be meeting women workers from the Black Country to discuss leading the fightback as ‘modern Mary Macarthurs’ and discussing with others low pay, insecure jobs and the disproportionate impact on women workers.

The lecture is taking place at a new venue and will be held at the Theatre in St. Michael’s School, Curral Road, Rowley Regis, B65 9AN from 7pm.

Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons the Rt Hon Sylvia Heal will be hosting the event along with the GMB’s Stephanie Peacock. There will be a chance to socialise and network after with a buffet and drinks for those attending.

To register to attend please contact Michelle on mkesterton@tuc.org.uk

I do hope that you will be able to join us on Friday 17th March at 7pm to hear another great, powerful contribution in our series of Mary Macarthur Lectures.
